Attractions in and around New Denver are boundless. We have split the list into village and area. Presently you are in the area page.
Idaho Peak. A must-see-and-do. The view from the peak at 2277 meters can be breathtaking on a clear day. Unfortunately, the road from Sandon, through the Wild Goose Basin, to the col and the parking lots may not be in very good shape. The powers-that-be have withdrawn financial support to maintain this access road. Talk to locals in the village or Sandon village for the latest information.
Galena Trail- an old railway bed that has been carefully restored to a hiking and cycling trail. When you reach the creek crossing, please remember to leave the cage in the middle of the pulleys.
Sandon - another MUST SEE. The old mining town has been written up in almost every heritage book and web site in the area. I bet you have read all about it already.
Kokanee Glacier Park. Across Canada, this park was described in every newspaper following the untimely death of Pierre & Margaret Trudeau's son Justin. While you can drive into the park and out again in one day, that is scarcely the way to SEE the park. Talk to locals before entering. (Early Spring is Grizzly Closure time.) Get an idea what conditions are like. Enjoy a few hours fishing. Fry your catch in a dedicated campfire site before you retire for the night. Then sleep like a log. You'll be glad you did.
Slocan Lake - because the lake is thirty kilometers long, there are numerous creeks that enter and each has a faithful following of fish.
Valhalla Provincial Park - pick up your brochures at our local tourism center within the Museum
Activities
Slocan Lake Golf Course. - Are you interested in golf then click on the link.
Snorkeling and Scuba. This lake is clear and clean. Visit the West Kootenay Dambusters site for Kootenay dive information.
Trail Rides. There is one company in the area, i.e. Mistaya Resort. It is about ten minutes by car, on the righthand of the road south of Silverton. You can't miss it since there will be a sign at the entrance to their driveway.
Mountain Biking & Cycling. There is a very active and industrious cycling club here and they organise speed trials in the village and rallys around it.
